Of Catching the Cat……The Sunny Isle of Antigua

Hello once again free folk of Middle Earth! Welcome to another installment of the Hobbit Hollow Construction Blog! My New Year’s resolution to lose 15 pounds is now officially down the drain so now I can go about living my life in a more civilized manner. Thank God. Although daughter Georgia raised the prospects of a Lenten fast for all you Christians out there. I think Fat Tuesday is this week. Hmmmm. I was thinking what a Hobbit might do under these circumstances. A rather unfair comparison on a number of levels….but I digress.

I mean I really did try to lose the 15 pounds. I got a cold right when I was about to get past the tipping point. So close. Maybe giving up something for Lent will give me the proper focus. Gonna have  to mull that one over a bit. Not a lot of time though.

So as I was saying last week the Editor and I were fortunate enough to be able to get away to the sunny isle of Antigua for a quick winter getaway. The caribbean…..ya gotta love it. Sunny and warm. What else can a man want or need? Especially when you have someone as good looking as the Editor on your arm. I wish you could all go down there with us and sing a couple of Bob Marley tunes at the beach bar with us. Okay we didn’t sing at the beach bar but you can’t go down there and not listen to Bob Marley. It’s against the law.

I’m not going to bore you all with this, that, and the other thing but I did promise the owner of the charter boat we went on that I would mention them in the blog. The Editor somehow found this catamaran that does day trips to a reef where  you can go snorkeling. Name of the boat was called “Catch the Cat”. What a wonderful time we had on this boat. It was a 4 hour cruise which included lunch and drinks. The best rum punch I had all week was on board Catch the Cat. So smooth. If you ever are on Antigua definitely look these guys up. I believe they can take up to eight people. Let me show you a few pictures.

Hunger got the best of the Editor. She left my big toe only.

Luckily my screams of pain were heard in the galley before she got to the big toe. The big toe is critical as far as walking is concerned. So at least I come away with that going for me. Lunch was awesome. Very enjoyable.

I took a couple of really good underwater pictures with a Go Pro camera. I don’t have the connection stuff to put them on the blog but the water at this reef was ridiculously clear. It was as if you weren’t in water.

Thanks for a day we will not soon forget!

I had this plan to bring graph  paper, a straight edge and pencils in order to draw up plans on how I was going to frame a bunch of miscellaneous stuff over at the house. It didn’t happen. I read “Day of the Triffids” by John Wyndham and “The Secret History” by Donna Tartt. If you’re into apocalyptic stories read “Day of the Triffids”. Written in 1951, very interesting. I can’t believe I had never heard of it. I enjoyed “The Secret History”but it’s definitely not for everyone. Sort of a modern day “Catcher in the Rye”. Disturbing but entertaining in it’s own way.

So if you like being entertained by Mother Nature and relaxing with a book this is where you should go. There were hummingbirds everywhere. Also for your information we saw the volcano on Monserrat spew some ash. Very cool. Mount Doom looming in my head as I’m watching this. I’ll try to get that picture in next week. No time for it now with Super Bowl 50 about to begin.

Anyway just a few pictures before I go.

As close to paradise as it gets. What a visual.

Hope to have more time next week! Have a great week!

PS: Mother-in-Law watched the house for us while we were away. Much too much info to put down here in one sitting. Time is an issue this week. Ask me why I smell like a little old lady after my first night back home?……. Houston we have a problem.

  1. “Day of the Triffids” was made into a movie in 1962 or ’63. Not a great movie, but not bad. It gets 79% on Rotten Tomatoes. It is available from several sources, and I found it on YouTube. Run time is about 95 minutes.

    • Hi Frank thanks for taking the time to leave a comment! Like I was saying the book was really compelling. I think if they did a remake of the movie with today’s technology it could be really good.

I’ll have to check out the original picture sometime when I have the time. Thanks for the heads up!

The little old lady crack wasn’t a crack. It was fact. I’m picking up a cot at Raymor and Flanagan for next time. I want to come home to the home I left behind thank you.

      See you later!
      Love,
