Welcome friends of old and strangers from distant lands! Happy New Year!!!! We meet again for another installment of the Hobbit Hollow Construction Blog!
Glad to have you all back!
It’s been a while since I’ve written (Over a month!) but this holiday season was crazy for me and I just didn’t have the time. Not that I worked on the house and got a ton done because I didn’t. So there wasn’t really anything to write about as far as the building process was concerned. So we start 2017 with a clean slate and with some realistic goals to work with. Well….we’ll talk about the goals maybe next week.
Yes people we’ve got to kick it into high gear now and try and get this thing done. A lot of little odds and ends to contend with.
Well before I get going I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season. We had a great time. Ethan came home from England and Georgia from Spain. A very nice family reunion if you will. Very nice. Couldn’t have asked for better. It was tough seeing Georgia go back to Spain but she’s all set there and was looking forward to going back. Wished she could have stayed another week.
So I’m just going to go through a couple of things that went on over the passed 4 weeks or so to fill you in a bit.
So the idea now is to get all the minor details in the house done so we can get ito the rough plumbing and rough electrical. I covered the skylights up with tarps so they wouldn’t get damaged by snow or rain. I wasn’t able to finish roofing the skylights so the flashing kit that came with them isn’t installed yet. I’m hoping to get some warm weather maybe and finish all that stuff this winter. We’ll see. Well anyway my thinking was if I do get some good weather I’ll be able to pull the tarps off and finish the skylight roofing details. (It’s actually quite a bit of work.)

So anyway I picked up a bunch of stuff at Home Depot on Saturday for all of these odds and ends so to speak. I had the boys meet me over at the house to help me unload the truck and to rearrange a few things so we’re ready to go when we start. Of course we can’t just do what I want the way I want. Somebody has always got to make a a joke or start goofing off. Here’s Jude doing his surfing impersonation with the furniture dolly.

Everything turns into some sort of joke with this guy.
Couple of other pictures if you’re interested. Not in any particular order.

We all went down to NYC to see the “Illusionist”show on 46th street. It was pretty cool walking around down there before the crowds show up the following day. If you’re planning a trip to NYC around this time of year try and check out that show. Very entertaining.

We had a problem with the crane over at 220 Central Park South. I had to climb up and look at the boom. Had to climb up from the 59th floor up vertical ladders. Essentially a 108 foot vertical climb. Don’t look down!

Little house in the big woods!
I hope you all have a blessed new year!
Talk to you soon!
Jim
Thank you Sally. From the bottom of my heart.

I am writing to offer encouragement. I have been where you are – mostly finished with a project – and run out of enthusiasm. DO NOT STOP NOW! Dig deep and carry on! Go you! ????
I have started a project too. It is a surprise for you for when you are finished. I’ll work on mine if you work on yours.
